Frequent Questions at Kitty In The Window Pet Services

What does a professional cat sitter do? A professional cat sitter visits kitties in their own homes to take care of their physical and emotional needs while their humans are away due to travel, business, or for health or other reasons.

What are the benefits of in-home cat sitting? Kitty gets to stay in the comfort of her own home, eat her regular food, use her own litter box, look out the window from her favourite perch and snooze in her usual place. She gets lots of TLC and playtime purr-sonalized to her needs. plus you get the added benefit of someone checking the home daily, watering indoor plants, adjusting lights/blinds/drapes and taking in mail to make the home look more secure.

Will you board my cat at your premises? We do not have boarding facilities. We are a mobile cat care service that visits kitties in the familiar comfort of their own homes.

Will you share kitty sitting with friends, neighbours, relatives or others? We do not share cat sitting with others due to liability and for reasons of kitty safety. During the pet sit we ask you not to have anyone else accessing the home (neighbours, friends, relatives, housekeeping staff, workmen, etc.) unless it is an emergency (fire, earthquake, gas leak, flood, etc.) where pets have to be rescued or the home is at risk.

Do you care for pets other than cats? We specialize in cats however if you have other small animals in the home, give us a call and we will let you know if we can care for them as well. There may be an additional fee depending on the number of pets and the extent of their care.

Do you offer overnight visits? We are currently not offering this service.

Can you visit every other day? Our policy is that we must visit a minimum of once per day. Anything less than that is not good for the emotional or physical well-being of your kitty. Also if there was an emergency in your home or with your kitty, an every other day visit may lead to serious consequences.

Do you have references? Yes. We bring copies of all our documents in a portfolio for you to see during the initial consultation.

My cat requires medication. Are you able to give it? We are able to give some types of medication (pills, ointments, drops, liquids, sub-q fluids) depending on the kitty. We do not give diabetic shots. Please discuss any medication with us during your initial phone call or email.

Will you let my cat outside while I am away? We only pet sit cats that are kept indoors during the contract period for safety reasons. We will also not let cats out on unprotected balconies.

What happens if there is an emergency with my kitty while I am away? We will try to contact you first but if it is an emergency we will take kitty to the clinic you have listed on your vet release. If your designated vet is not available, we will take kitty to another open clinic in your area or to the nearest Animal Emergency Hospital.

Can you keep my keys on file for future pet sits so there isn't the need to pick up and drop off keys? Yes. We have a Key Holder Program for regular clients that allows them to leave keys with us for future pet sits. Once you are a participating client, you would email your request with the dates you want. The kitty sit is booked once we email you back to let you know we have the availability and check with you for any updates. If you do not have keys on file after the first pet sit, there is a $15.00 key pick-up fee and a $15.00 key return fee per trip to partially compensate for our time and gas.

What security precautions do you take? Keys are kept in a locked and secure location on our premises when not in use. They are tagged with a code so they don't have your name, address or phone number on them. Our vehicles do not have company advertising. We suggest the use of lights and soft music on timers or we can adjust lighting and drapes as well as take in mail and newspapers to make your home look more secure. We also check windows and doors on each visit and kitties are counted upon arrival and leaving to make sure everyone is safe and secure.

Will you provide kitty updates while I am away? We are happy to let you know how kitty is doing. We can leave messages on your voicemail for you to retrieve at your convenience or send text messages every few days. You can also call us whenever you like.

How much advance notice do you require to book a cat sit? For new clients, we generally require at least five days notice so we have time to arrange an in-home consultation. For clients with keys on file, service can start within a few days as long as we have openings in our schedule. For major holidays such as Christmas, you will want to book at least a month in advance.

What forms of payment do you accept and what is the payment process? Currently we accept cheques, money orders or cash. Cheques or money orders should be made out to Kitty in the Window Pet Services. For new clients, payment in full is due when we fill out the service agreement. For existing clients, payment is due on the first day of the kitty sit or before.

What is your cancellation policy? Cancellations have to be received a minimum of 3 days prior to the first day of the pet sit for a refund, except during Christmas when 2 weeks notice is required. Bookings cancelled without sufficient notice will result in a charge of 50% of the total cost of the kitty sit. There are no refunds once the pet sit has started.

We don't distribute, sell or give your private information to anyone outside our business unless we have your permission or it's required by law.
